Common Closet is an online consignment and donations service with the purpose of providing affordable clothing to all students on campus, reducing clothing waste, rejecting the principles of fast-fashion clothing consumption and encouraging students to participate in a circular economy. We want you to to help us make it happen.
If you want to help lead Common Closet this semester, apply for a board position. Or join as a member for a lower commitment way to get involved.
Applications for board members and sign-ups for members are due on September 11.
Open Board Positions
Board members will be expected to attend weekly meetings (30 minutes), help out with operations (2 hour shift every other weekend), and help run occasional events such as thrift pop-ups. This is a semester-long commitment.
Facilitates operations schedule and working hours, emails Common Closet members to organize scheduling, takes meeting minutes at biweekly board meetings.
Manages the Common Closet Venmo account (distributing seller payouts and monitoring buyer payments), balances FGLI discount pool budget, helps with accounting sheets.
Spearheads 1-2 in-person pop-up events throughout the semester, suggest and plans other updates, policies, and improvements to the Common Closet system.
Social Media Coordinator
Manages the @commonclosetyale Instagram account posts, stories, and messages, helps manage email campaigns.
Uploads photos to website, improves website functionality, works with graphic designer to update website design, helps develop ways to automate operations processes (e.g. email system).
Builds community within the Common Closet team by checking in with members and planning social events, reaches out to other organizations and residential colleges for collaborations.
Designs social media infographics to convey Common Closet's impact, policies, and events, designs physical publication materials (flyers, posters).
If these descriptions don't call out to you but you would still like to be involved, join Common Closet as a member. Members are expected to take a 2-hour shift every other week to help out with sorting and setting up our inventory (that's only 4 hours a month)! Member perks include getting early access to our latest clothing inventory, joining fun social events, and being part of the Common Closet family :) Anyone who can make the 4-hour monthly commitment will be accepted as a member.
